Teeth Whitening - What is Bleaching? What should be taken into consideration for teeth whitening treatment?

Teeth Whitening is performed by applying a specially prepared gel onto the teeth and accelerating the reaction with a light source in most techniques, giving very positive and safe results. We receive extremely positive feedback from our patients who prefer teeth whitening.

In addition to healthy teeth, having white and beautiful teeth is very important for a person's self-confidence. White and clean teeth help you make a positive impact on the people you interact with. Teeth whitening is a procedure performed to eliminate changes in the color of the outer layer of individuals with healthy teeth. After the examination, a decision is made together with the dentist about the suitability of both dental health and tooth structure for the whitening process. Before the application, the treatment methods and the results of the treatment are explained to the person by the physician.

What is the Teeth Whitening Process?

Teeth whitening is a treatment performed to restore teeth that have lost their whiteness over time to the desired color. It is a method especially recommended for removing stains that appear later on the teeth. Deformation in the teeth is seen as the cause of stains on the tooth surface and even yellowing of the teeth. This situation is a result of not paying due attention to oral and dental health and not paying attention to the foods consumed.

The whitening method aims to find solutions to all these problems. The aim of the whitening process is to remove the stains on the enamel and dentin layer and to restore the tooth's old color. Teeth whitening is not a procedure that can be done by oneself at home. Especially purchasing materials sold under the name of teeth whitening products and using them without a doctor's approval may cause undesirable damage to the teeth. In this respect, having the treatment under the supervision of a doctor would be the best choice in terms of health.

How is Teeth Whitening Done?

Teeth whitening is the process of dentists restoring the color changes in the teeth to their original color using various methods applied to the teeth in a clinical environment. It can be applied to a certain number of teeth or to all teeth. The whitening process is done by two methods. These methods are called home bleaching and office bleaching.

The main purpose is to apply tooth whitening gel to the tooth surface to remove the stains and to restore the tooth's old color through professional procedures. In addition to the beam, laser can also be used to activate the gel on the tooth surface.

During the whitening process, the abrasion method is first used to remove the stains and yellowness seen on the surface of the tooth. Following this method, the stains on the tooth surface are broken down. As a result of the procedure, the teeth regain their former whiteness.

In Which Circumstances Is Teeth Whitening Not Performed?

Before the whitening process can be performed, a dentist examination is required. After the dentist decides that the structure and shape of the tooth is suitable for the bleaching process, the type of procedure and how long it will take are determined. Teeth whitening can be applied to anyone with healthy teeth. However, if a problem with teeth and gums is found after the examination, this disorder must be treated first.

Structural defects in the gums and tooth enamel prevent the whitening process. The whitening process applied for excessive tooth stains caused by antibiotic use may not yield results. Whitening cannot be performed on people with broken or cracked teeth. First of all, these teeth need to be treated. The same method should be followed for those with tooth and gum sensitivity. However, bleaching cannot be performed on people whose gums have receded and most of the root is exposed.

Before the whitening procedure, people who smoke excessively are asked to quit smoking. Because after the treatment, tooth color begins to change again due to nicotine. If the person cannot quit smoking after treatment, it is recommended to have his teeth cleaned every 3 months.

Who Shouldn't Have Teeth Whitening?

Teeth whitening method is not applied to people who have not completed their tooth development.

The age of completion of tooth development is seen as 16. In people under this age, the pulp and dental nerves are at their largest size. If whitening is applied to this tooth, sensitivity will occur.

Additionally, this treatment method is not applied to pregnant and breastfeeding women.

Likewise, this treatment is not performed for people who have porcelain veneers on their teeth.
